A Ladder to the Sky

Anyone else love consuming media about assholes? Some people watch Succession... some people read A Ladder to the Sky. I've read a few John Boyne books in my time (Boy in Striped Pyjamas, Hearts Invisible Furies), and he's consistently excellent while playing around with perspective and darkness. This book is no different!

A Ladder to the Sky is about the price of greed, but it's such an interesting spin. We follow the points of view of various characters who come into contact with Maurice, a charming author who is full of technical talent, but lacks creativity. To what lengths will he go to achieve his dream of a literary career? Strap in, because you're in for a wild ride if you want to find out!

Boyne has a particular talent in writing his characters so realistically. Everyone is complex, human... real. But alongside this, he always adds a pinch of humour that hits the spot. It's a perfect combo.
